Eskup is to talk, share,
learn. It is having a conversation in multiple directions on the
topics we are interested in. It is a network because we meet and become
connected, but where the message is what really matters. It has been
created by elpais.com team, where we
use it for journalistic purposes. But Eskup can be used for far more than
just that: it is the place where you will find experts discussing their
matters, where you can ask or reply, keep quiet or read, get informed
or inform. Eskup is an open and living communication medium. And
this is how it works::
- In order to write and join a conversation you must sign up (if you have already done it and you are a registered user at elpais.com you do not need to sign up
again). If you only want to explore the site it is not necessary. Anyway
you can access all messages, read any topic or visit a user's page.
- Once registered you can already write. But before doing so you must
fill in your profile.
- In Eskup, apart from following the people you are interested in, you
may subscribe to topics, that will be filed as they come
up. You can also write in them —in case of open groups or topics,
whenever you want; if these require pre-authorization, requesting the system
administrator to do so.
- On the left area you manage your profile, topics, see the
status of the ones you follow (if they are connected, a green
flag will appear below their photo), those who follow you, the
messages you have posted and those in which someone mentions you, and
you will find a search engine of both users and topics.
280 characters with extra photos and video
- At the central area of Eskup's interface you have five
different panels.Use the tabs to switch between them. On the
first one, 'LO QUE SIGO', (what I'm following), you
can see everything that people you follow write and the messages posted
on the topics you are subscribed to, apart from what you publish
yourself. From the second panel, 'Privado' (in private), you can
choose to send a private message to any other user. On that same board
you will also receive messages. If you do not want other user to contact
you, you can block his or her private messages. On the third panel,
'TODO' (everything) everything going on in Eskup is displayed. It is
the great cascade of messages, photos and videos.
The fourth panel 'Mis mensajes' (my messages) shows only the content you have uploaded.
The last panel 'Menciones' (mentions) shows the messages in which someone mentions you.
- Messages can contain a maximum of 280 characters.
But apart from text you have the possibility of attaching
images, uploading videos and publishing not only on your panel
but also under any other open topic you are subscribed to. You will
always know who has published the messages, when —the most recent ones
are shown on the top— and if they have been written in connection with a
topic or are part of a conversation. You will be able to edit
the messages once published, delete them and reply from anyone's message.
- Photos: you must upload the images from your
computer. They will be displayed at a maximum size of 432 pixels width
and 800 pixels high. If they are larger they will be automatically
rescaled. If they are smaller, they will appear in their real size.
Under 250 pixels width Eskup will align the photo to the text.
- Video: to upload a video, we currently support
links from youtube.com, metacafe.com, dailymotion.com, vimeo.com, current.com, video.google.com, video.google.es and vids.myspace.com. You just have to
place the link inside the box of 280 characters along with text.
Dialogue is the word, with whoever you want
On Eskup's last column we will highlight topics for
you to participate —whether they are news or not— developed by our
editorial team or by any user.
Some topics will have restricted access for publication purposes
and others will be completely opened to participation.
